Guitar Lessons for Beginners on
YouTube
This is the sixth article in a series of articles in which we have been looking at
some of the guitar lessons for beginners on YouTube from
channels such as beekcakejcc and rockongoodpeople. This particular example
of video guitar lessons is from rockongoodpeople, and gives and introduction to basic guitar chords and strum
patterns. This is one of the best online lessons for beginners that have been posted on YouTube, and a prime
example of how video guitar lessons can really help a new player. A very good example of just how well produced
video lessons can be.

Like any good how to play guitar for beginners style video should start, the tutor begins
by introducing himself. After this brief introductory segment the teacher launches into a tirade of tuition,
beginning with basic strum patterns. An amazing amount of knowledge is presented in the rockongoodpeople beginner
guitar lessons and this tutorial is no exception. A simple down, down down-up pattern is taught at first, with no
attempt to bring in a chord progression, simply a strum pattern to get the new player used to the idea of what a
strum pattern actually is.
Video guitar lessons often overlook key facts, as they are produced by amateurs, not so
with this video, the guys at rockongoodpeople really can show beginners how to play guitar. It would have been so
easy to teach the strum pattern and leave it there, but instead the actual note intervals are explaining, both
quarter notes and eight notes, in a very easy to understand way, the way beginner lessons should be. When the
instructor does actually start to play a chord along with the strum pattern the chord is clearly shown on the
screen, along with the chord fingering. If only all video guitar lessons were produced this way, very easy to
follow with excellent information presented at the time it is needed. Almost the perfect way to produce online
guitar lessons.
Unlike most other beginner guitar lessons, the rockongoodpeople videos attempt to introduce
more advance techniques. This is well demonstrated when they combine the G major chord they were using to
demonstrate strum patterns with an uncommon C add 9 chord. Most people teaching beginner guitar lessons would
consider the C add 9 chord a far too advanced topic to introduce to people taking online guitar lessons for
beginners. The idea of strum patterns is shown to work with combination of chord changes after this, including an A
minor - C major change. Once the tutor feels the student has grasped the strum pattern he moves on to a far more,
multi-chord progressions, yet still using the same strum pattern which has been the backbone of the entire
video.
Finally this excellent example of video lessons goes on to highlight some potential
problems with strumming. It is explained that the player needs to keep their strumming consistent, and ensure that
they are making every string ringing out true, and that no string are dampened by mistake. Accuracy is the key to
compelling rhythm playing.
When it comes to how to play guitar for beginners the guys at rockongoodpeople really have
the right idea. Guitar lessons for beginners do not need to be boring and repetitive, and indeed this prime choice
of beginner guitar lessons online is both entertaining and instruction. Well worth watching even if you are a
slightly more experience guitar player, just looking to brush up on a few techniques that you may have glossed over
originally.
